“So… why are wedding flowers actually so expensive?”

It is one of the questions we hear most often from couples planning a wedding in Italy. And honestly, it makes sense.

If you have never planned a wedding before, floral pricing can feel confusing at first glance. You see flowers everywhere on Pinterest and Instagram, but it is not always obvious what goes into creating those spaces in real life.

As a Tuscany wedding florist, we believe pricing should feel transparent, not mysterious. That is also exactly why we created our Wedding Flower Cost Calculator. You can find it HERE It gives couples a realistic starting point before they even inquire, helping you understand what wedding flowers in Tuscany might actually cost based on your guest count, priorities, and overall vision.

Because wedding flowers are never just “flowers on tables.” They are design, logistics, timing, installation, transport, labour, sourcing, and atmosphere all working together.

What You Are Really Paying For

When couples first start researching wedding flowers in Tuscany, many assume most of the budget goes directly toward the blooms themselves.

In reality, flowers are only one part of the investment.

Of course, fresh flowers have a cost. Premium garden roses, delphinium, orchids, peonies, and other speciality flowers are often sourced from trusted growers in Italy and abroad. Prices fluctuate throughout the year depending on weather conditions, availability, transportation costs, and seasonal demand.

But what many couples don't realise is that they are not simply buying flowers. They are hiring a professional florist and design team to create, manage, and execute an important part of their wedding.

A wedding florist is a business, not a hobby.

Long before your wedding day arrives, there are months, and often more than a year, of preparation behind the scenes. We spend countless hours answering emails, developing design ideas, preparing proposals, refining concepts, sourcing flowers, coordinating logistics, and communicating with planners and venues.

Then there are the costs involved in running a professional business. Workshop rent, vehicles, fuel, insurance, staff wages, taxes, tools, refrigeration, administration, accounting, and all the other expenses required to keep a business operating year-round.

Experience is part of the investment too. After more than 25 years working with flowers and living in Italy, we know which flowers will survive a Tuscan heatwave, how to install safely in historic venues, how to solve problems before they become visible to our clients, and how to create designs that work beautifully in the space rather than simply looking good in a Pinterest image.

Before we order a single stem, we spend time understanding your venue, colour palette, guest count, ceremony setting, table layouts, and the atmosphere you want your wedding weekend to have. Designing destination wedding flowers in Tuscany means considering much more than aesthetics alone.

You're not paying only for the flowers you see on the day. You're also paying for the knowledge, preparation, infrastructure, and experience that make those flowers possible.

Why We Have a Minimum Spend

One thing we believe in strongly is transparency.

That is why we work with a minimum floral investment of €6000.

We know minimum spends can feel intimidating at first, especially in an industry where pricing is often kept vague. But we prefer to be upfront because it helps couples understand what is realistically possible and whether we are the right fit for one another.

The reality is that every wedding requires a significant amount of preparation, regardless of budget. Consultations, design development, sourcing, logistics, transport, installation, administration, and communication all take time and resources. Whether a wedding spends €500 or €5,000 on flowers, many of those behind-the-scenes costs remain the same.

Our minimum spend allows us to dedicate the time, expertise, and attention needed to create beautiful work while running a sustainable business. It ensures we can invest in quality flowers, experienced staff, professional equipment, and the level of service our couples expect.

For a wedding of around 50 guests, our minimum investment typically covers:

  • bridal bouquet

  • groom boutonniere

  • two ceremony arrangements

  • two aisle meadows

  • dinner table flowers

  • transport and logistics

Our Wedding Flower Calculator

Because floral pricing varies so much from wedding to wedding, we created a Cost Calculator to make the process easier and more transparent. You can find it HERE

It helps couples estimate their floral budget based on:

  • guest count

  • ceremony styling

  • table setups

  • floral installations

It is not an exact quote, because every wedding is different, but it gives you a much clearer understanding of realistic pricing before we even start designing together.

We created it because we know couples are searching online for answers like:

  • “How much do wedding flowers cost in Tuscany?”

  • “What is a realistic floral budget for an Italian wedding?”

  • “Why are destination wedding flowers so expensive?”

And honestly, those are good questions to ask.

Labour, Logistics, and Experience

Destination weddings in Italy often come with complex logistical challenges.

Flowers need to travel safely through summer temperatures. Historic venues may have strict installation restrictions. Outdoor ceremonies require weather backup plans. Timelines need to run smoothly with planners, caterers, photographers, and venues all working simultaneously.

You are not only hiring a florist. You are hiring a team that knows how to manage all of those moving parts calmly and professionally.

With more than 25 years of experience, we know how to create wedding flowers that not only look beautiful when guests arrive, but still hold up hours later during dinner, speeches, and dancing.

Can You Spend Less on Wedding Flowers?

Absolutely.

Beautiful weddings do not always require massive floral installations.

There are many smart ways to prioritise budget while still creating atmosphere:

  • focusing on fewer high-impact areas

  • repurposing ceremony flowers

  • choosing seasonal blooms

  • simplifying table styling

Even table shape can influence pricing. Long tables usually require more flowers and styling materials than round tables to create the same visual fullness.

The key is not necessarily spending less everywhere. It is spending intentionally in the places that matter most to you.

Final Thoughts

Wedding flowers are often one of the elements guests remember most, even if they cannot always explain why.

Flowers influence how a space feels. They shape the atmosphere of the ceremony, dinner, and entire wedding weekend. They bring softness to historic architecture and warmth to outdoor spaces.

And when done well, they never feel separate from the celebration itself. They become part of the experience.

That is why wedding flowers in Tuscany are about much more than decoration alone.

They are design, craftsmanship, logistics, emotion, and storytelling, all coming together for a single moment that only happens once.
